A Final Fantasy XIV dataminer by the name of from and the FFXIV Discord, and found a link to a non-existent file, and shared a directory list from one of the internal storage files (their words, not mine). What can be plainly seen in the image that IcarusTwine shared on r/FFXIV, is a curious reference to a “BlueMageAction.”New jobs and speculation of said new jobs are always exciting, so seeing something like this should get naturally get most FFXIV fans pumped up. Especially since Red Mage and Samurai got put in, Blue Mage has been one of the most requested jobs to be added next. Credit: IcarusTwine from r/FFXIV.Let’s pump the brakes a little though. While yes, this could be the hint of a Blue Mage character of some sorts appearing in FFXIV’s upcoming story update, which is sometimes a precursor to future additions (Rogue/Ninja and the Au Ra for example), it isn’t always the case.
There are references to Geomancers all over in Stormblood, yet that job does not yet exist. The same can be said for Gunblade wielders, which have been in the game since at least A Realm Reborn, but have not been usable by players. Also, unlike Blue Mage’s inclusion as a job Final Fantasy XI, which has a more sandbox style when it comes to job and party roles which made it a perfect fit for that game, Blue Mage’s historical versatility makes it ill-fitting for FFXIV’s rigid party system. The old saying of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole would be fitting in this case.I’m not saying it won’t be added for those reasons, but it’s definitely more challenging for the FFXIV dev team than say throwing Samurai in as a DPS and calling it a day. You’d have to either allow it to play all three roles depending on spell set up, or pigeon hole into one, which kind of buries the charm of it a bit.But let’s see what happens. There’s a reason why people like me are writing about games and not making them.
I’m sure after creating two pretty cut and dry DPS classes with Stormblood, the developers wouldn’t mind taking on the challenge of how to add Blue Mage into FFXIV in a creative way, if that is indeed what’s being hinted at here. It could also mean nothing, it’s a rumor after all.Maybe we’ll get more information at the first FFXIV fan fest which will in Las Vegas on Nov. 18 later this year.
Hi all,Firstly, I just need to say that I recently had problems with my GTX570 which I sent back for RMA. The replacement worked! But thank you all who helped when I posted here.Anyway, while FFXIV has got obvious problems with its failure of a launch, I still like to play it from time to time between other games.
However, I am getting very low performance in the game.Initially I used the 266.58 drivers, and these gave lower performance to the care I replaces (ATI4870).Using the 276.24 beta drivers, I am getting performance only a tiny bit more than the ATI4870. Its usually less than 30fps.I have 8gb DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3), and a processor overclocked to 3.2ghz (Intel Core Duo Quad Q9300).I know that at these speeds, the processor is a bottleneck, but at the same time, I really think I should be getting better fps, considering that the benchmark for FFXIV runs perfectly.Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might fix this? Or do I just have to wait for nVidia to release better drivers? Considering the popularity of FFXIV, there will be absolutely no propriety for nVidia to fix anything. Thanks in advance for any help!:). While KO'd, you can choose to return to your home point for free, or wait for a revive. (there's no 'time till HP' like in FFXI). If you're in a Duty (Instanced Dungeon or Leve), you can chose to return to the start of the map. (In an instanced dungeon, a shortcut is created after every large boss).

CPU, CPU, CPU This game is EXTREMELY CPU and memory bandwidth bottlenecked.

The demo more or less doesn't show a true perspective of how the game will run, as the benchmarking demo tool doesn't demand anywhere near the same level of CPU horsepower as it does ingame. You've really two options. Overclock higher (which I wouldn't suggest with a Core2 since you're already pushed fairly far for it), or upgrade to a newer Intel Processor. To hit the sweet spot in FFXIV (where FPS doesn't fall under 50 most of the time) you need to have an i7 system overclocked to 4.2-4.6ghz.
(pure 60fps in XIV is virtually unattainable)-Play around with your graphics options as suggested (disable SSAO, MSAA, etc). If you find that lowering game resolution or reducing graphics options has negligible to no impact on performance, then sadly the only thing you're going to be able to do is upgrade your motherboard / processor.Honestly, I don't think that there's anything that NVidia can do. Because the problem isn't so much rendering power as it is the hog of a game-engine that SE created. SLI Scaling in FFXIV is perfect, yet the engine is choked by the CPU with even a single card in most cases. LovehaForgot about the CPU dependability of this game. Watching my CPU meter on my desktop since I don't run full screen, it uses 4 Cores at about 20-30% CPU usage at 4GHz.
Used to run 4.2GHz, no difference in FPS. Whenever I get to someplace crowded and people porting in and out the CPU quickly uses some of the unused threads. A new CPU Platform would greatly increase performance. High end P55 (i7 1156) or the new P67 or a Simple X58.One thing to remember whenever you're seeing 20-30% usage per core in a quad, is that a single threaded application at 100% load often will appear this way in Windows. Threads hop from core to core in a cycle (it balances heat generated by design). Since the reading you're getting of CPU load isn't instantaneous it can seem that a game is using all 4 cores whenever you really just have a case of a thread pegged at 100% load for a core.I rarely see the game over 50% CPU consumption per core in the Windows graphs, yet if I force thread affinity to single cores (per game-thread), I can see that they're hitting a ceiling.
Thanks for the feedback guys.At some point this year I will upgrade the CPU. The only reason I am delaying this is because I will also have to upgrade the motherboard. You are right, I cant overclock my CPU any higher and maintain a stable system no matter how cool I keep it. I have pushed the overclocking to its furthest, it seems. But the performance boost compared to stock settings is emense. After playing around with the settings I am getting much better framerates in FFXIV. I dont need it to be going as high as 60fps, because most people wont notice any difference after about 30 fps.I am not sure what exactly I did to the settings but today the game performs much better. I have everything to the max except AA is set to 8XQC and disabled Ambient Occlusion.
Its running very smoothly (apart from the stuttering that happens when changing servers within cities, but thats a different issue completely).I guess I expected that this card would be able to take everything at full settings. FFXIV just happens to have the heaviest graphics engine I know of. Still things have started to look up.Thanks all for the help again.Just on a sidenote, Square-Enix have done great things with this game since release, and still some great things to come. Still, my server is just too quiet at the moment. I hope it can get back some of its original fanbase:3.
